2: | Educational program | In the first month of Project implementation Novi put staff defined and prepared education and informational material to be used for promotion. Novi put also defined the quantities and types of promotional material to be printed. The selected company printed and delivered the materials (pens, pocket calendars, flyers, posters, bookmarks…) which have been distributed during Project workshops, visits and various meetings. Novi put engaged 2 lecturers/administrative assistants Ms Alma Muratović-Kajtaz and Ms Edisa Demić for the period September 15, 2014 – September 15, 2015 and also teacher for workshops Ms Aida Karabeg for the period November 15, 2014 – September 15, 2015. Educator teams prepared program for the workshops and were responsible for conducting of workshops. Implementation of workshops started in December 2014. Within the reporting period Novi put teams conducted in total 25 workshops in 20 communities in Herzegovina – Neretva Canton with in total 790 participants. The lectures attracted lot of attention, as the general situation in the country is getting worse and Novi put had to repeat a WS in one place as the first one triggered interest of the local community due to the fact that a local teenage girl who used to be an “A” pupil in the primary school left the high school and became a victim of trafficking. Many parents from that area asked Novi put to also include their daughters in the Mentoring Program even though they are not to be considered as “at-risk-families” as they have been afraid that their daughters might get recruited by traffickers. On May 11, 2015 Novi put had a meeting in OSCE Mostar Office and talked about the Project activities with the Education Officer and current situation in the Canton regarding education. Novi put representatives had another follow up meeting with OSCE Education Officer in June 2015 where the Officer informed them that OSCE plans to organize education workshop and invite Ms Pehlić and Ms Demić to present Project mentoring activities and held workshops. As planned by the Project Novi put conducted 4 workshops for Roma families in the area of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. One of the workshops for Roma community members was held in June and three workshops were held in July 2015. The workshops were held in Association “Kuća otvorenog srca” and NGO “Sunce” premises in Mostar, with 85 participants in total. The distribution of the promotional material that had been designed and printed for the project has been carried out during the entire project implementation and will be completed on September 15, 2015. | In progress | 15/09/2015

Students of the United World Colleges in Mostar have volunteered to work with the Roma girls once a week. Students from other secondary schools in Mostar have been also volunteering at the classes in period November 2014– May 2015. Novi put staff initiated several meetings in order to collect donations for Roma families included in the Project. The meetings were held with Red Cross Mostar/Caritas (on November 3, 5, 10 and 17) and the representatives of the company Violeta Grude (October 24, 2014). Novi put managed to get humanitarian aid for the girls from Caritas (new winter jackets, shoes, clothes underwear. Caritas Mostar handed over New Year gifts for the girls attending literacy course. Red Cross Mostar donated 25 packages with food supplies (value per package 100 KM) to Roma families in Mostar area. Representatives of Novi put and Red Cross visited the families and handed over the supplies. Novi put distributed school supplies purchased within the Project to the girls attending literacy course in January 2015. Novi put presented the project and activities on the meeting in OSCE Office in Mostar on February 13, 2015 and the OSCE Roma Focal Point will report on the Project. The girls who attend classes prepared a play to mark the International Roma day on 8 April 2015. The play has attracted lot of media representatives from daily newspapers and web portals. The literacy course is very successful, number of attendees is higher than planned as 35 girls have taken part in the literacy courses and even more girls expressed willingness to attend such courses in the future. Teachers have made special efforts and involve other girls in lessons whenever possible. Both parents and children have shown great interest in the course. The participants of the course would like to continue with the lessons even after the completion of the Project. The parents of the Roma girls attending the school have started realizing that they are not condemned to be uneducated, to spend their lives living in sheds without any facilities which are something normal for all other people. 5: | Educational program | Novi put held meetings with all 26 selected students within the activity 1, in the period October 13 – November 11, 2014 in order to introduce them to the program, its objectives and outputs. Implementation of the mentoring program has started on November 24. Mentors have started with visiting of the families as of January 15, 2015. Ms Abida Pehlić was engaged as a coordinator and developer of mentoring program for the period September 15, 2014 – September 15, 2015. Ms Pehlić was responsible for the implementation of mentor program and Project coordination. Ms Pehlić held regular meetings with the mentors and visited girls, their parents and schools. Novi put has completed mentor recruitment process in November 2014, but since there was a great interest from students, and also the parents who wanted to take part in the activities, it was decided to expand the number of both students and the girls given that the Mentoring program has got support of the Faculties, School Staff throughout the Canton, but most important parents, and since the girls are interested to take part in the activities. The expansion of the participants in the mentoring program did not require any additional funds, and Novi put had decided to use the interest and motivation of all project participants. Thus 26 students mentored 102 girls. In addition, all students/mentors have been more than willing and happy to commit themselves to the mentoring program for the period of 3 years, so they signed agreement with Novi put for that period. In the reporting period all mentors visited families allocated to them. Mentors had excellent cooperation with families and held more meetings than planned by the Project, thus they were meeting girls not less than once a month, however most of the mentors were meeting their girls once a week during the execution of the Mentor program. Children were very interested in the program and the reports of the mentors have shown that this activity was very important for a long-term promotion of education of girls, as before the implementation of the program some of the families had considered to stop educating their daughters due to poverty or lack of trust in getting any employment for their daughters in the future due to extremely bad economic situation in the country. Based on the mentors’ reports but also statement of the participating families the mentoring program has significantly help the girls to improve their grades, get more self-confidence and make decisions to continue with education. All the girls stated that they also liked joint activities with their mentors and they enjoyed brainstorming and joint discussion which have made them feel like peers with the mentors and all of have considered their mentors as older sisters or friends. Both the parents and the girls expressed a wish to continue with the program f continue past the grant year 3 years and the mentors have also committed themslef to this period by signing a written agreement with Novi put | Complete | 23/08/2015

Novi put representatives were guests in the show of the City TV and talked about the project and implemented activities in May 2015. It is important to mention that a web portal “Ljubuški portal” from the neighboring canton that had not been covered with the project activities had reported about the project and its importance on November 23, 2014. There has been hardly any other NGO dealing with the similar issues that has ever got that much media interest, but the media have realized the importance of this project.
